"I'd love Eddie to come back." - Wallaby attack coach

Talk of Eddie Jones returning to Australia to take over the Wallabies ahead of the 2027 World Cup continues and the notion has found support within the current Wallabies ranks. 

Australia’s attack coach Scott Wisemantel, a close friend of Jones, has displayed enthusiasm at the thought of the latter at the helm, once again, of the national side. 

Jones coached the Wallabies to the 2003 final World Cup final where they fell to a formidable English side captained by Martin Johnson. Now in charge of England, Jones’ contract is set to expire following the 2023 World Cup in France and much interest surrounds his next move.  

“I'd love to have Eddie back in Australia,” Wisemantel said. 

“In what capacity, I don't know, I just think he'd be great for the game heading into '27. 

“Just the way that he promotes the game, the way he drums up business from your [media] end and interest.” 

Wisemantel served as assistant coach to Jones during England’s 2019 World Cup campaign before joining the Wallabies. Despite his excitement at the thought, he made it clear that he still supported current Head Coach Dave Rennie. 

“I'm biased because I'm mates with him and I've worked with him,” Wisemantel said. 

“But at the same time - and I want to make this really, really clear, so you can't draw a bow that Wisemantel wants Eddie Jones back - I think Dave Rennie and this coaching staff are exceptional.”
